Our Grocery Store Adventure

We miss Dad. Darin is in Myrtle Beach on his annual golf trip. Getting this group out the door looking good can surely be a challenge - so I opted for just getting them out the door.

Boots Fancy

I had a couple of cute outfits picked out this morning and Megan insisted upon wearing her ballet outfit. Fine. Jake's jeans have the snaps on the legs to make for ease in diaper changing. They're actually a pain because Jake decided that he likes to unsnap them. Ok, so we've got the ballerina and the kid with his pants legs open. On to shoes......I tried to get them both into their Crocs. Megan decided on flip flops and Jake decided on rain boots. There is no changing their minds. Hmmm. Alright, coats. Jake's was fine. Megan just "had" to wear her winter coat - which she calls her fat coat.

We get to the grocery store and Jake buckled himself in. I thought, "sweet!" Usually he complains about the buckle and tries to climb out. He only kicked his boots off once in the store. Megan was pretty good. She just walked along accepting compliments on her fancy outfit. We made it all the way to the checkout without incident. Megan was helping to put items on the belt. Jake had gotten a hold of Kids' hand soap in a pump bottle and poured it all over himself and the floor. Apparently, the kids' soap doesn't have a kid-proof lid. Clean up at register 3.

I will say the soap smelled really good. It was like we opened up some potpourri in the car. It's not even noon - what will the rest of our day bring?!

Sidewalk Paint

Sidewalk Paint

Yesterday was a beautiful day. It was sunny and 75 degrees. We ran some errands in the morning and since Megan had been asking for sidewalk paint (chalk isn't good enough, apparently), we picked some up in the morning.

While Jake was napping in the afternoon, Megan got started on her outdoor art project. Jake woke up and decided to join her. First, I was thinking "oh boy, Jake and paint sure don't mix". But, he got in there and was loving it. I was going through the mail on the back porch and he was just sitting on the sidewalk painting away. I started thinking that I should get out a book or a magazine and relax. I made it about a third of the way through the Pottery Barn catalog and hear, "MOM! Jake painted on my swimsuit" I got up from my chair and walked down the stairs to see Megan swiping a roller full of sidewalk paint across the top of Jake's head.

Obviously, I didn't want to get in the middle of a paint fight, so from afar, I told them to stop. They ended up with paint all over their arms, clothes, faces and hair. Needless to say, they had an early bath time.

I liked this photo of Megan, so I had to include it. This morning, when we were driving to Debbie's...I reminded her that she was going to be "Person of the Day" at school on Tuesday. When she's person of the day, she brings the snacks, so I asked her what snack she wanted. She said, "I want Rice Krispies. The sticky ones".

Ahh, finally some warm weather

Every time I slow down or come to an intersection, Jake yells, "Go!" No patience with that guy. Both of them love it. I rode them to Debbie's house yesterday, dropped off the trailer there and then rode to work. When I came back to pick them up, Debbie said that Megan was really excited to ride in the trailer. And then, when I was putting her to bed last night I asked her about her day. She said, "We played duck, duck, goose and that's why my pants are so dirty and the best part of my day was riding in the bike trailer! It's so much fun!" Looks like I'll be putting in lots of miles this summer!

At the Park....

I probably should have put sunscreen on their faces - they both have pink cheeks today. Oops. We met our neighbors at the park in the morning and as you can see from the photo, Jake found the sand pit. And, not only was it a sand pit - he found the area that had a puddle of water. He and his friend Mia had lots of fun playing in that muddy water.

Megan is getting brave at the park - now there's nothing she won't attempt. She also says some funny stuff these days. Yesterday she said, "I eat lots of vegetables and fruit at Debbie's house.....strawberries, grapes, watermelon, bananas, apples, peaches" And then she followed it up with, "Don't tell Debbie that". What a good liar, huh?! Then, right before bed last night she picked up a copy of Golf Digest. She said, "That's Tiger Woods". And Darin & I were both like, "How do you know that?" (neither one of us told her). She said "I just know it." I said, "What does he do? and she said, "He golfs". Now, this is interesting because he was just standing there on the cover with his hands on his hips - no golf clubs in sight. Interesting what they pick up, huh?

Busy Wednesday

Pals 4/9/08

On Wednesday, we had quite a day. I told the kids I'd take them to the Children's Museum, so Darin left for work at about 7:45am and I started getting them dressed for the day. We finally got out of the house at 9:20. Don't ask me how it takes and hour and a half to get two little kids out the door - all I can say is that time just flew by and it's not like I was sitting around reading the paper.

Anyway, we finally got to the Museum and at first Jake was a bit tentative (he walked around holding my hand). After a short while, he basically started following Megan around and after an hour or so, I just sat on a bench and let them explore and play on their own. Jake is getting big enough to really start enjoying these activities. We should have a good time at the beach this summer.

We left the museum at lunch time and headed home for Jake to nap. Once he got up, we played outside for most of the afternoon. This photo is from that day. The only problem with this nice weather is that it's impossible to get the kids back inside!
