Sox Game in Style

I think the kids did nothing but eat the entire time we were there. Not sure if they even noticed that a baseball game was happening. We ended up leaving a little early. As it happens, the Sox won that game with a home run after we left.

Ode to Jake

A couple of months ago, Jake found some silly putty that they must have gotten as part of a party favor or something. He was really loving it one Sunday morning. I was headed to the gym and taking Megan and Jake to the playroom. Unknown to me, Jake decided to sneak the silly putty into the gym in his underpants (he was wearing sweats and didn't have pockets). After working out, I was putting him into his car seat and he wouldn't sit down. He said, "I think I have to take it out". Note to self- silly putty doesn't come easily out of fabric.

One day, the four of us were driving out to Jenny's house and Jake's music request was "Rock and roll - the screaming kind". Darin was flipping through the stations and with each one, Jake would tell him "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". When he finally found a suitable song, I looked back to find him doing this:

Rock-n-Roll

He spends a couple of days each week with Uncle Jimmy as a babysitter, so he obviously learned that from him. Jimmy also taught him the "Blow it up" hand move. Jake did that one to one of the dads when he came out of school one day and the dad's comment was, "That kid's gonna be fun in college".

One afternoon the kids and I were telling switch stories. Switch stories are just what they sound like. One person starts a story, gets to a point and says "switch" and the next person starts there. Megan started the story and it happened to be about a shy pony grazing in a meadow. She had all of these nice things to say about the pony and when she switched it to Jake, he said, "then the Transformer smashed and ate the bad guy". He proceeded to explain this battle and then Megan was pissed because her nice story was ruined. I got it switched to me and turned it around for her by explaining that the Transformer situation was only a dream. She was ok with that.

When telling me about a television show, he said, "Caillou was a yee-haw guy......I mean a cowboy."

During the week before Easter, I was dropping Jake off at school and the Easter Bunny was outside with the 2nd grade class. Megan said, "Jake, look! It's the Easter Bunny!" Jake barely even looked up and, cool as a cucumber, responded, "That's just a guy in a suit".

I was putting him to bed a few weeks ago and he said, "Mom, can you do me a favor at wake up time?" I said, "sure, Jake. What can I do for you?" He said, "Write a note to Santa about Super Hero toys and tell him to get them for me". Not sure where Santa came into play during the month of April - but this kid's always working on getting a new toy for himself.

One last thing....as I mentioned, Jimmy watches the kids a couple of days each week, so that means he picks them up from school as well. On one of the days that I was home with him, he said to me, "I want you to pick me up". I told him I was going to. Then, as serious as can be he asked, "Are you gonna remember that?" Seriously.....like I've ever forgotten to pick him up?!! Funny kid.

I know there are hundreds more of these, but if I don't write it down when it happens, then it may be lost forever, I'm afraid. I'll try to be more on top of it.

Megan's Latest Masterpiece

Here's Megan enjoying some beautiful April weather. April was a nicer month than May so far.

Easter eggs

We have this little egg spinner thing that's supposed to make a swirl pattern on the eggs. It doesn't really swirl like the package made it look, but the kids still had a fun time with it.

The next day, I took the kids down to a farm in Palos. Jenny set it up for us all to go to this Easter Egg hunt and farm tour. The kids had a good time running around. Here's a shot of all of them after the hunt:

The Farm

It's funny, out of about 15 photos of them on this rock, this was the closest to having them all look toward the camera. After the day at the farm, we went to see "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D. Check it out:

Back in March (yes, March), Darin and I went to Tubac, Arizona for a long weekend to play golf and celebrate our anniversary (8 years if any of you are counting). Uncle Jimmy stayed home with the kids. The resort was about 20 miles north of the Mexican border, yet it sat in a valley so surprisingly, there was quite a bit of vegetation. It was cool in the morning and warmed up nicely in the afternoon - warm enough to sit by the pool and relax for a bit. Here's Darin:

And here's me:

The golf course was really pretty. The movie "Tin Cup" used one of their holes for filming. Good times.
