Everyday Stuff

Lately, Jake's favorite phrases have been, "Shut up" and "You're so stupid". Anytime he gets mad or frustrated (no matter the cause), those are the phrases that come out of his mouth. It's actually pretty funny sometimes because we know he can't think of anything else to say. Then there are times when he thinks it's funny too. For instance, on Christmas day, my brother Brian was leaving and Jake was standing at the door and shouted out to him, "Merry Chistmas Uncle Brian......You're so stupid".

The other thing that Jake did for a while, was make up nonsense talk. He would just ramble on with various phrases and after a while the one that prevailed was "Bucko Cheesy". I know this means nothing to any of you reading this, but I had to include it for our own reference. He and Darin go back in forth with "Hi Bucko Cheesy"...."No, you're bucko cheesy". I think Jake considers it an insult, but it's their little inside joke.

Megan was going to bed one night and told me, "I want to be the smartest person in the world."

I let them use plastic knives to play with their play-doh. Megan calls it a cutter and Jake calls it a "sharp". As in, "Can you hand me the cutter?" And, "I want a sharp".

Megan and Jake like to run around and do "tricks". Megan will show off a move and say, "Ta Da". Jake's version of that is "Ta Ha". No matter how many times we tell him the correct version, he always reverts back to "Ta Ha".

During Catholic Schools Week, Megan's preschool had some fun activities going on. One day, she came home with the game, Don't Break the Ice. I asked her where she got it from and she answered, "From the Ruffle Game". I had no idea what she was talking about until about a week later when I was talking about a raffle for some reason. She said, "You were playing a ruffle game too?" That was my "Ah ha" moment.

Darin was doing some work around the house and the kids were helping. Jake kept asking for a "Goofdriver". Yep, you guessed it - screwdriver.

We get a laugh out of how Jake says, "Spongebob Squarepants". His version sounds more like "Fuh-budge carepants". We ask him over and over to say it and laugh every time.

Sometimes I call Jake "Sweetie Pie". He says, "I not your fweetie pie. Daddy your fweetie pie". Although he's still pretty sweet because every now and then he'll come up to me and say, "I make you smile, mom?" And I say, "sure" and then he gives me a big kiss.

When Darin leaves for work in the morning, Jake has to be sure to give him a big hug and kiss. He's also watches out for his sister. He directs Darin by saying (actually it's more like screaming), "Hug and kiss Megan, dad!" And he doesn't give in until everyone has had sufficient hugs and kisses. So sweet.

That's all for now.
