Jake is at an age where he says some pretty funny stuff. I occasionally write it down on a little slip of paper if I think of it so that I can transfer it to the blog at some point. I've just come across a few of these little slips, so now is as good a time as any to document them! This photo was from one Saturday afternoon when Jake and I went to the used book store and browsed for about an hour. He wanted to show off his new books to dad and proceeded to lay them out on the lawn.
Back in the summer, I had the kids at Sauganash Park to play with their friends. I was sitting on a bench with Patti, when her daughter Ava came running over asking for ice cream from the push cart vendor. Patti said, "No one is getting ice cream. It's too close to dinner time". Ava said, "Jake is getting ice cream". I said, "I'm not getting ice cream for Jake". She said, "He's getting it for himself". ?????
Apparently, he had a dollar in his pocket. But the ice cream bar he wanted was $2.00. So he asked a big kid at the park for another dollar and the kid gave it to him. Geesh. Afterward, Jake told the kid thanks and he followed up with "no problem, little man". Jake was feeling like quite the big shot at that point.
Jake and Megan were playing house and I kept hearing him say "Mom". I said, "What?" and he said "If I need you, I'll say 'Real Mom'. In the game if I said 'pretend mom' that would be weird." He looked at Megan and said "Then, you would say 'awkward'." (that was in a sing-songy voice)
Jake wanted me to read him a book so he brought it downstairs. He got distracted with something else and when I said it was time to go up to bed, he said "Really? I brought my book all the way down her for nothing? Really?"
He had a play date last week with his friend Simone.
He was pretty excited about it for a few days before. He told Mimi and Papa "She's cute". He also described her to me with a comment that "Her hair is kind of like the sun". On the day before she was due to come over, I picked him up from school and as we were leaving he asked what kind of snack she would like. She said, "I'll take a sandwich". He said, "I can't make you a sandwich, but I can make you sweet potato pancakes".
